The museum was originally created to house the rich collection of philhellene Rene Puaux, which was donated to Pylos. Eventually, however, the building was used as the Archaeological Museum, which houses finds from the area Pylia from Middle Helladic to Roman times.
The exhibits are growing in two rooms. Among them, the findings unearthed from tomb of pine cones in Paleochora, including seal, golden movies, funerary jar and two necklaces, also a large talus from the Hellenistic mound of crispy, and numerous grave goods, pottery and copper utensils .
Relatively recently decided to transfer the Archaeological Museum Pylos Niokastro fortress city. When this project is completed, the spaces of the Museum will be converted into warehouses and maintenance workshop.
The initial aim of the museum was to house the rich collection of French philhellene Rene Puaux, which consisted of documents , prints and memorabilia of race. The Puaux, who in 1930 was named an honorary citizen of Pylos , had envisioned the creation of a Museum , which, apart from the collection will also housed all the treasures of the Greek Revolution . The museum , which eventually was built after many adventures , housed only a part of the famous collection of Puaux, which still has not found a permanent home. The Antonopouleion Museum finally worked as an archaeological museum with finds from the surrounding area of Pylos , from Middle Helladic to Roman times .
